ACT was created in 1986 by an American Psychologist called Steven C Hayes and his colleagues.
We are acknowledged as a leading consultancy delivering Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is a tested psychological approach that has been used effectively since 1986 when it was developed by American Psychologist Steven C Hayes and his colleagues. Since this date, it has been rigorously proven in over 150 studies to be effective in improving personal wellness and making changes in your life.
ACT is a form of psychological therapy, that offers a different approach from traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in that it enables us to change our relationship with difficult thoughts, feeling and emotions.
Employers have responsibility to look after the health, safety and welfare of their employees. This includes proactively looking after their emotional / psychological, physical and social wellbeing. When mental health issues do occur in the workplace, they should, under the Health and Safety Act, be treated in the same way as other work related injuries – recorded in the accident book and corrective actions taken to address.

Empirical evidence suggests that ACT can be effective in managing a range of emotional and other psychological wellness matters such as those struggling with their emotions, experiencing depression or anxiety, as well as reducing workplace stress, and decreasing emotional exhaustion (Flaxman & Bond, 2010 and Lloyd, Bond & Flaxman, 2012). It has also been demonstrated to enable lasting behavioural change in areas such as quitting smoking, reduce weight and change eating behaviours.
